“Sometimes my husband gets very attracted to him. The very next moment my attraction turns to someone else. When you see a beautiful girl or a boy, you feel like getting physically close to them. I’ll be very upset at that moment.’
This is what 38-year-old Jayanthi (name changed) from Delhi says. She is working in an international company.
Dr Arogyanathudu, assistant professor at the Government Hospital for Mental Care and Andhra Medical College, said jayanthi’s condition is called ‘abrosexuality’.
Britain’s Emma Flint recently wrote an article for ‘Metro’ magazine in which she said she had abrosexuality.
Then began the debate on abrosexuality.
Dr. Arogyanath told the BBC that in medical parlance, abrosexuality is defined as having a physical attraction for both men and women and changing from time to time.
“People with these symptoms are completely attracted to men for a few days. This attraction can last for a few hours, for a few days, for a few months. Soon after that, their focus can shift to the girls,” said Dr Arogyanath.
The frequent change in sexual attractions is called “sexual fluidity”.
Abrosexuality is a new concept.
“Hey! You look beautiful. It’s very tempting to see your long neck blouse. If I were a boy, many women might have heard such comments from friends, relatives, women collegians in the office, etc.
Since the comments were made by the same gender, usually women take them lightly. Some may have a little trouble. This may be because the other person is attracted to you.
Such a situation is not faced only for girls. Boys may also have faced a similar situation from other boys.
If this trend is often seen, the other person may have a physical attraction towards you. That is to say, these are not the characteristics of gay and lesbians.
There is no stability in terms of sexuality when there are ‘abrosexuality’ symptoms. While some days they are attracted to men, some days their focus is on women.
