The Materi vigilance Programmer of India (MvPI) is a national initiative launched by the Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission (IPC) under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to monitor and ensure the safety of medical devices in India.

🧪 What is Materivigilance?

Materi vigilance is the science and activities related to the detection, assessment, understanding, and prevention of adverse events (AEs) or other problems related to medical devices.

Just like pharmacovigilance ensures medicine safety, Materi vigilance ensures the safety of devices like:
• Stents
• Implants
• Ventilators
• Surgical instruments
• Syringes and diagnostic devices

🏛 Who Runs the MvPI?
• Nodal Agency: Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission (IPC), Ghaziabad
• Coordinating Centre: IPC coordinates with:
• Medical colleges
• Hospitals
• Device manufacturers
• Regulatory bodies like CDSCO

🎯 Objectives of MvPI:
1. Collect data on adverse events (AEs) associated with medical devices.

3. Inform CDSCO (Central Drugs Standard Control Organization) for regulatory actions.
4. Train healthcare professionals on identifying and reporting AEs.
