There is a huge demand for pulasa fish coming from the Bay of Bengal into the Godavari.
Especially before Vinayaka Chaturthi, there is more craze for pulasa found in the Godavari river.
This fish, known as pulasa in the Telugu states, is called hilsa in Odisha and West Bengal.
It is also known as Hilsa in the neighbouring country of Bangladesh.
The new government in Bangladesh is now preventing pulasa from coming to India.
On the occasion of Dussehra, the people of West Bengal love to eat hilsa fish.
But this time it’s going to be hard to find the fish. This is because Bangladesh, which exports hilsa fish to India, has imposed restrictions on exports.
This is one of the key decisions taken after the formation of the new government in Bangladesh. Farida Akhtar, advisor to bangladesh’s fisheries department, said the decision will make hilsa fish available to the people of Bangladesh in abundance from now on.
These fish are generally exported to India on a large scale despite prohibitory orders.
However, Farida Akhtar told the BBC that this time, steps will be taken to ensure that hilsa bungalow does not cross the border.
